There is so much included within the price of a Work the World placement, however there are certain elements that are impossible for us to include in the overall price. To help you understand and most importantly accurately budget for your trip, below is a list of additional costs you may need to consider.
FLIGHTS 
Students and professionals travel with us from countries all over the world, meaning we cannot include the price of flights into our overall placement costs as they would vary too much.
Your first and most obvious port of call is the flight comparison sites. Chances are you’ve used one before, but one mistake a lot of people make is not using multiple sites.
Most sites will show you the same or similar prices. But if you’re willing to put in the time to keep digging, more often than not you’ll find a price on one site that none of the other sites has.
You can try better-known sites like Skyscanner, Kayak, Momondo, Cheapflights.co.uk, Google Flights… And holiday package sites like Expedia, Booking.com and Hotels.com sell flights individually too, so they’re worth checking out.
Some students often tend to arrive a couple of days early in order to secure a cheaper flight. If this is something you wanted to do we can also either host you at the Work the World house (subject to availability), or we can recommend a good and affordable local hotel, and we’ll still come to pick you up to escort you to the Work the World house the day before your placement is due to start.

TRAVEL INSURANCE 
Travel insurance varies depending on what level of cover you decide to go for. To ensure you’ve got the most comprehensive travel insurance policy, we’ve teamed up with an insurance provider who can assist you with a quote. It is of course a no-obligation quotation, and you’re free to shop around.
INDEMNITY INSURANCE
Indemnity protection for your particular field of healthcare is essential for completing a placement in a hospital or other clinical setting. Its main purpose is to provide legal protection and assistance, especially in cases of alleged negligence. Indemnity protection is required even when attending an observational placement.
Speak to your university
Some healthcare students are able to obtain free indemnity protection through their university so we recommend checking with your university to see if they can offer you cover or not.
Contact your professional body
Professional bodies commonly offer some kind of medical indemnity/malpractice insurance. We recommend that you contact the professional body/association/society for your discipline, whether you’re a member or not.
If the above is not an option, we can also recommend a Medical Professional Liability cover option for you, which will be provided as soon as you book on.
VISAS
Costs of visas vary and are dependent on the type of passport you hold (in terms of your country of issue). In some of our destinations visas are free.
Your dedicated MyTrip portal will have all the relevant information you’ll need including online embassy application forms, visa costs, the type of visa you’ll need to apply for and most importantly the time frames in which you’ll need to complete this by. We’ve been doing this for over 15 years so we’ll be able to guide you every step of the way, should you need any further visa application assistance.
VACCINATIONS
Depending on how much travelling you’ve done in the past and what vaccinations you may have previously received, it may be that you don’t need any vaccinations at all. Some vaccinations are free, others may have a cost associated with them.
Our advice is that you check with your local travel clinic or GP, who will have access to your medical files and who will be best placed to advise you on what you’ll need.
SPENDING MONEY
Our accommodation is there for you to stay in 7 days a week. Most people who travel with us do tend to use their weekends to go further afield and explore the country they are living in, but this is completely up to you. If you do decide to travel at weekends it is often very affordable. A lot of housemates tend to travel together meaning transportation and accommodation is cheaper than going solo.
Safaris can be more expensive, but again we can advise you of the best companies to book with, ensuring you’re getting the best deal possible.
Depending on the destination you visit we recommend you budget about £100 per week. Once you’ve booked on, your MyTrip portal will give you estimated costs for the price of beer, food (should you decide to dine out) through to hotel costs for weekend breaks and a wide range of activities available within your chosen destination such as treks, bungee jumping, local transportation - to name but a few!
Most people book an overseas placement about 9 months in advance of their travel date. This allows time to save and more often than not fundraise.
